Sustainable tourism course begins in Malta as part of the Future project
The Sustainable Tourism Course has officially started in Malta, marking a significant step in the Erasmus+ FUTURE – Fostering Sustainable Tourism for New Employees project. Organized by the Mediterranean Academy of Culture, Technology and Trade (MACTT), the course aims to equip students and professionals with the skills necessary to promote responsible and environmentally conscious tourism.
This initiative reflects the FUTURE project’s commitment to integrating sustainability into tourism education, ensuring that the next generation of professionals is prepared to address the challenges of a changing industry. With a focus on innovation and practical application, participants will explore key strategies to minimize tourism’s environmental impact.
A structured approach to sustainable tourism
The course is designed to provide a balance of theoretical learning and hands-on experience, allowing participants to develop sustainable solutions for the tourism sector. The curriculum includes:
- Form traditional marketing to green marketing.
- The food system and the dilemma of food waste.
- Choosing ICT systems for the green economy.
- How to manage a hospitality business in a green way
Through a mix of lectures, workshops, and group activities, participants will engage in discussions and case studies that demonstrate real-world applications of sustainability principles.

Collaboration with St. Edward’s College
The launch of the Sustainable Tourism Course was made possible through the support and hospitality of St. Edward’s College Malta, which provides an ideal learning environment for participants. By partnering with local institutions, the FUTURE project ensures that its training initiatives have strong community engagement and contribute to regional sustainability efforts.
Preparing for a greener tourism industry
As sustainability becomes a priority for tourism businesses, training programs like this play an essential role in preparing future professionals to adapt to industry changes. The course will not only equip participants with the technical knowledge needed for responsible tourism but also foster a mindset that values long-term environmental and social impact.
By the end of the course, students will be better prepared to:
✅ Implement sustainable practices in hospitality and tourism businesses.
✅ Develop eco-conscious strategies that align with industry standards.
✅ Contribute to environmentally and socially responsible tourism initiatives.
The impact of the FUTURE project
The FUTURE project continues to expand its reach by providing training opportunities that connect education with industry needs. The Sustainable Tourism Course in Malta is an example of how vocational education and training (VET) programs can support green skills development, ensuring that sustainability is integrated into tourism operations at all levels.
As the course progresses, participants will engage in further practical activities and discussions, helping to shape the future of sustainable tourism.
